What to expect?

The photo walk is based on enabling you to get the best photographic shots of New York City. Each photo walk is special, depending on the prevailing lighting and weather conditions and the time of  the year.

To ensure that you get as much attention as possible each tour will have a maximum of 4 participants. Whilst I aim to visit as many quality locations as possible during the photo walk and I also ensure that participants have the time to absorb their surroundings and learn how to fully ‘work’ a location.

Tours can be organized around your schedule and can be morning, afternoon or evening. Capturing New York City at sunrise or sunset can create dramatically different photographs.

How strenuous are the tours?
Anyone in general good health can handle the photo walk. Often there’s some place to sit, if needed.

What about bad weather?
We go rain or shine, though thunderstorms will make us take cover.

What to bring with you?

A camera is is the only requirement. Having a SLR (digital or film) is preferred but point and shoot cameras are just fine. A good camera does not make a good photographer. The best camera is the one you have.

Appropriate clothing, NYC weather can be unpredictable at best and rain is not uncommon. It also gets very cold and windy in the winter so the advice is be prepared, bring more rather than less, you can always take off extra layers if need be. Sturdy footwear is also recommended.

Recommended camera kit:

  • DSLR camera – Digital is preferred as you can immediately see your shots and have the ability to delete unwanted photos.
  • various lenses, wide angle and zoom – We will be covering many different types of shots and being able to change lenses is an advantage.
  • sturdy tripod – This allows you to shoot long exposures and HDR shots if desired.
  • Flash (sometimes needed for night shooting or inside shots).
  • Remote trigger – not essential but a nice option to have.

Hello,

my name is Frerk Hopf and I was born in 1967 in Germany. I love taking photos. I’m not really a photographer, at least not a trained one but photography has always been my hobby and my passion. I got my first professionell camera in the young age of 10.

Since then I took thousend shots of people and nature while traveling worldwide. I trained my knowledge through several workshops and shootings. Now, in 2014 I turned my hobby to my new job.

I like to work on casual, friendly terms and, most of all, I want to have fun. I would be happy to hear from you. Just drop me an email our visit me on facebook.com.
